A centuries-old sanctuary carved in stone
Ancient Buddhist Cave Temple
A Sacred Cave Woven with History
Legend says that King Mayadunne once sought refuge in a cave here and transformed it into a temple, with frescoes and Buddha statues created centuries ago. Today, you can reach this historic site via a forest-and-village walk (about 40 minutes), or opt for a tuk-tuk or jeep ride followed by a short 250 m path through gardens and brooks. Inside the simple stone chamber, faded murals and ancient deities echo layers of Sri Lanka’s spiritual past.
